Situation: Settlement on behalf of a police officer who was parked in the median monitoring traffic and was rear-ended by a motorist who drove into the median. The Plaintiff suffered injuries to both knees and his cervical and lumbar spine and underwent six surgical procedures. Plaintiff was also unable to continue his employment as a police officer due to his injuries.
$900,000 for a slip and fall case.
Situation: While exiting her first floor condominium, a woman fell on a patch of ice that had formed on the condominium's rear stoop. The plaintiff suffered a fractured femur requiring multiple surgeries and substantial wage loss from her employment as a nurse. It was established that the defendant condominium association had prior knowledge of a long-standing hazard, which led to the ice. Yet, they yet did nothing to remedy the defect.
$837,500 for an automobile accident
Situation: Awarded on behalf of a gentleman whose car was sideswiped by a landscaping truck, despite the fact that the car incurred minimal damage.
$625,000 for a construction injury
Situation: Plaintiff was performing his duties on the third-floor units of a construction project. Plaintiff did not have any fall protection as required by OSHA regulations, a situation which had existed at least two (2) days prior to the incident. As Plaintiff was working on a third floor unit, he fell. Plaintiff sustained, among others, a closed head injury.
$405,000 for an automobile collision
Situation: Theisen & Roche, Ltd. successfully litigated the case against the rental car company's insurance company, despite the fact that defendant only had $20,000 of insurance coverage. The company refused to extend coverage due to an exclusion in the policy.
$375,000.00 for a burn case
Situation: Awarded on behalf of a gentleman who suffered burns to his legs. The burns resulted from standing water mixed with lime in the area where he was working.
$270,000.00 for an automobile collision case.
Situation: A driver who carrying minimum liability coverage (Illinois minimum is $20,000.00) ran a red light striking the Plaintiff head-on. The automobile accident caused a fractured toe and a closed head injury. Recovery was obtained from the Plaintiffs own auto insurer pursuant to the Plaintiffs under-insured motorist coverage.
$250,000 for a burn case
Situation: A woman was burned at a tanning salon due to the tanning salon's failure to place the proper light filters on its tanning beds.
$215,000 for a slip and fall
Situation: Settlement on behalf of a plaintiff who was injured when she slipped and fell on ice as she was leaving work. The ice formed as a result of melting and re-freezing from a pile of plowed snow located next to the plaintiff's car. The plaintiff suffered injuries to her left knee which required surgical repair.
$202,500 for a drive-by shooting injury
Situation: Theisen & Roche, Ltd. successfully litigated the case against the defendant's homeowners insurance company. The company refused to extend coverage to the defendant based upon the intentional acts exclusion found in the policy.
$275,000.00 for back injury
Situation: A 49-year-old paint store manager suffered a herniated disc in his low back after his vehicle was struck, at a relatively low speed, by a landscaping truck. The injury required surgery.
$250,000 for a fire case
Situation: Awarded for the family of a young architect who perished in a house fire where there were no working smoke detectors.
$175,000 for a nursing home neglect case
Situation: A disabled resident was allowed to exit through a locked and alarmed door. The resident fell down a flight of stairs resulting in a fractured femur.
